It is only since the summer of 2006 that we re-commenced

fitting 'Woodgrain' panels in doors. Prior to then we had

suspended sales of this this type of door panel because in some instances the Woodgrain panels were being seriously affected  by exposure to high summer temperatures. In severe cases warping and discolouration was evident. The problem has now been solved with the development of heatShield.

What Is Heat Shield?

New Technology

heatShield is the brand new door skin technology from our door panel supplier that helps puts an end to problematic woodgrain door panels.

For decades now, this industry has been plagued with negative connotations of woodgrain door panels due to the heat expansion that can occur causing cracking, warping and bubbling. Having manufactured panels for over 15 years, our supplier has experienced these problems first hand, which is why for many years they have been searching for a solution to help overcome this problem.

The Solution

They have now developed a woodgrain foil specifically formulated to help solve the problems of cracking, warping and bubbling. heatShield has been designed for door panels and prevents the heat being absorbed into the substrate therefore acting as a white door would do.

Our supplier is the first to use this advanced technology in the UK and heatShield is the first door product with it. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to give customers products that are trouble-free and fit for purpose.

Whilst the overriding benefit of heatShield is its protection from the sun, it also provides many more unique benefits as listed below.

  • Superior scratch resistance
  • Superior abrasion resistance
  • Superior thickness
  • Weathering
  • Embossed finish
  • Retention of embossing
  • Exact match to window and door frame
  • BBA accreditation

Documentation from BBA is available to confirm this.)

Infrared Test

The camera never lies!

Infrared photography provides us with the best means of proving our product attributes to you. What you can’t see with the naked eye, you can see using an infrared camera

The proof

There are two sets of images below; the first set shows 2 doors exactly the same style; however one door is made using the old fashioned Hot Stamp Foil and one with heatShield  Technology.

When you look at our doors through a traditional camera lens you can’t distinguish between the one using the new heatShield Technology and the one using the old fashioned Hot Stamp Foil.

Hot Stamp Foil

The Hot Stamp Foil appears very dark under the infrared lens indicating why it is susceptible to absorbing heat. Once the heat passed into the skin itself it causes movements in the plastic which results in product failures such as bending, cracking and warping.

Heat Shield Technology

As you can clearly make out, the Heat Shield Skin which is photographed under infrared appears virtually white which explains why the heat is reflected before it gets chance to enter the skin.

In essence what this proves is that with heatShield, we are able to offer woodgrain panels that perform as a white one.
